Guest Speaker at the October HNC Support Group
On the first Saturday morning of every month, HNC patients and survivors gather, chat, share personal stories/experiences and gather helpful information from others. They are of different ages, gender and race, and accompanied by family, caregivers, and/or friends. But they all have one thing in common – they or a family member have been diagnosed with Head & Neck Cancer (HNC). They are here to participate in the Head & Neck Patient Support Group at USC, to encourage and to be encouraged.
Our next Support Group meets on October 5th at 10am. We will have a special guest speaker, Alaina Bassett Au.D., Ph.D., CCC-A.
Dr. Bassett, is an audiologist specializing in the assessment and multidisciplinary management for patients with concerns of dizziness and imbalance across the lifespan. She completed her Au.D. and Ph.D. at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Her current research interests include the impact of chronic illness on balance function, the aging vestibular system, and fall prevention protocols within medical settings. She is the Director of the USC Balance Center in the USC Caruso Department of Otolaryngology.

Can you hear me now? Exploring hearing and balance function after treatment of head and neck cancer
An overview of hearing and balance function across the lifespan with discussion of changes in hearing and balance function following intervention for head and neck cancer. This presentation will review the auditory and vestibular systems , discuss diagnostic tests, rehabilitation, and fall prevention.
